BROADCAST RESEARCH/OPERATIONS SPECIALIST
(Assistant Broadcast Systems Manager - Traffic)
THE POSITION: This
is a regular, full-time Academic Professional position. The
Assistant Broadcast Systems Manager - Traffic reports to the
Broadcast Systems Manager – Traffic, and performs duties
related to radio traffic: scheduling, operations,
continuity, production, shipping and archiving in the WILL
Radio Programming Department. Specific duties include, but
are not limited to: obtaining, organizing and preparing
broadcast material based on its intended use for live or
delayed broadcast, webcasting and/or archival storage;
maintaining a library of information concerning broadcast
material; filing reports with program networks, producers
and licensing agencies; preparing logs which direct the
activities of operational personnel and automation
concerning the transmission of broadcast material;
developing and maintaining a digital music archive and
database, while upgrading the existing database; and
establishing a centralized content server with shared
network access.
QUALIFICATIONS: A
baccalaureate degree is required; a graduate degree is
preferred. Working experience in radio station operations
is necessary. Experience with Content Depot, ProTrack or
similar scheduling software, Enco DAD or similar digital
audio storage and automation system and Adobe Audition or
similar audio editing software is strongly preferred.
Experience with database development and maintenance and
systems analysis would be helpful.
SALARY AND BENEFITS:
The starting salary is commensurate with qualifications and
experience. The University of Illinois offers a generous

THE STATION: WILL
AM and FM are the public radio stations licensed to the
Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois and
affiliated with National Public Radio and Public Radio
International. WILL-AM, on the air since 1922, is a
5,000-watt station that serves much of eastern Illinois and
western Indiana with a news and information format.
WILL-FM, established in 1941, is a 105,000-watt station that
serves east central Illinois and west central Indiana with
predominantly classical music programming. WILL-TV is the
primary PBS station serving the
Champaign-Decatur-Springfield market. The station has been
on the air since 1955 and has a strong local presence in the
areas of programming and outreach. The stations broadcast
24 hours a day from Campbell Hall for Public
Telecommunication on the University of Illinois campus.
WILL-Online extends the reach of all WILL broadcast services
with extensive online archives and program information.
THE LOCATION: The
University of Illinois is located in Urbana-Champaign
(population 104,880), 140 miles south of Chicago, 150 miles
northeast of St. Louis, and 120 miles west of Indianapolis.
The University setting (38,000 students) provides a rich
cultural environment, many sports and entertainment events,
and a variety of recreational facilities. Local schools,
libraries, retail shopping outlets, and performing arts
facilities make the community an extremely desirable place
in which to live and work.
