"By the time I left Vietnam, I felt everybody was there. And getting back to the States, I realized that everybody was not there. Things were going on here, as they had been going on before I left. Almost as if there was no war. So that was kind of shocking to me because I was so immersed in it."
"You know the war changes you forever and in the period of time from when I was in Vietnam until the Saigon government fell, I had changed. I had not only become fascinated with water coming out of a faucet and having some place clean and soft to sleep, but I had a changed attitude. I became more compassionate as a person than I was before. You know, I became very laid back in many ways. The fire I had in my late teens and early 20s, I had that passion, but there was something balancing about it. I became more of a whole person."
