Champaign-Urbana Residents Turn Cameras on Their City
No one knows the ins and outs of a city better than the residents, so WILL-TV asked Champaign-Urbana residents to volunteer their time and video skills to tell some of the stories of their town. Their work is featured in an hour-long special, A Day in Our Town:
Champaign-Urbana.
More than two dozen volunteers headed out on a sunny Saturday in October to videotape interesting people, places, and organizations that make up the twin cities.
“We think the program will offer a few surprises for the people of Champaign-Urbana as well as the residents of neighboring communities,” says Kimberlie
Kranich, project coordinator.
“This is the type of program that will make you appreciate the two cities just a bit more if you live here or want to visit if you live elsewhere.”
So, what do the Champaign-Urbana volunteers want you to know about their town?
“There’s a lot to do here!” Kranich said. “From outdoor activities to the local music and theatre scene, to coffee shops and U of I events. And the people, of course.” One story features Dave Monk, who has been preserving , restoring and educating people about the local prairie for decades. Another focuses on Ha Ho, co-director of the East Central Illinois Refugee Mutual Assistance Center, a place where new immigrants are welcomed into the community and supported.
Funding for the production of A Day in Our Hometown: Champaign-Urbana was provided by Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District . Promotional support from NewsTalk 1400
